With the hedgerows bursting into bloom, elderflower season has arrived in full force at GKG! To celebrate the delicious gifts our garden brings, we’re sharing a favourite: our simple, refreshing Elderflower Cordial Recipe - perfect for long, sunny days.
This year, with generous support from Social Farms & Gardens, we were thrilled to provide everything needed for our community to join in the fun. Participants gathered fresh elderflowers straight from the garden and took home all the ingredients to make their very own seasonal cordial.
Whether added to sparkling drinks, summer bakes, or frozen into ice cubes, it’s a sweet taste of nature’s abundance - and a beautiful way to celebrate the season together.
1. Pick elderflower blooms and gently rehome any little creatures.
2. Pour the boiling water over the sugar and citric acid in a very large mixing bowl.
3. Add the the orange and lemon slices, and then the flowers.
4. Stir well and leave to cool.
5. Leave in a cool place for 24 hours, stirring occasionally.
6. Strain through some muslin or cheesecloth and transfer to sterilised bottles.
