Our weekly Food Surplus Market is more than just a place to pick up affordable groceries - it's a vibrant, welcoming hub where community, sustainability, and good food come together. Each week, we offer a wide variety of items from Fareshare Cymru, local supermarkets, and fresh produce grown right here in our community allotment. By rescuing good food that would otherwise go to waste, we're helping to tackle food insecurity and reduce environmental impact - one basket at a time.
When you arrive at the market, we aim to make your visit as smooth and enjoyable as possible. You’ll be welcomed and registered at the door, where you’ll be issued a number. This gentle queuing system means no need to stand in line - just relax and enjoy the space until it’s your turn. Grab a free cuppa or lunch, have a chat with neighbours, or take a peaceful wander through the garden. Bring a book and chill in the orchard under the shade of our apple and pear trees - we’ll come find you when it’s your time to browse.
Each week’s market selection is different, reflecting the ever-changing surplus we receive. For just £5, you can fill a basket with up to 15 items, helping to prevent perfectly good food from ending up in landfill. Every penny you spend goes straight back into supporting the GKG project - and donations are always welcome.
Join us in building a more sustainable, connected, and nourishing community - one meal at a time.
Join our exciting and rewarding volunteer programme at GKG - whether you come weekly or drop in when you can, there’s always a way to get involved, make a difference, and be part of something special!
